ICF Summer Festival of New Music (June 15, 2019)

Open to ICF members only

The Iowa Composers Forum announces our annual Summer Festival of New Music in Decorah, Iowa, August 9-11, 2019. The festival is being hosted by ICF board members Jonah Elrod, Ben Hippen and Craig Hultgren. We are pleased to have the Epinoia String Quartet and the Oneota Valley Community Orchestra String Ensemble as featured ensembles for this festival. Festival concerts will be held at Luther College’s Noble Recital Hall and at the Lingonberry, a store-front venue on the town’s Water Street. The categories for submissions to the 2019 festival are:

  1. The Epinoia String Quartet is comprised of musicians from northeast Iowa who have been presenting ever-engaging regular chamber music concerts. The group is made up of Nicole Cody and Kayla Scholl – violins, Benjamin Kratchmer – viola and Ivan Caluya – cello.
  2. The Oneota Valley Community Orchestra String Ensemble under the direction of Matthew Cody has made tremendous artistic strides in its short six-year history. When submitting quartets and string orchestra works, please be advised that these groups are made up of mostly amateur musicians.
  3. An electroacoustic concert for either electronics alone or in combination with a live performer/s is being planned. Be sure to include your technical requirements for this category.
  4. General submission is for any combination of five or less performers. Please indicate, if you can supply your own performers. Be forewarned that there might not be a very large performer pool available in the summer in the small town of Decorah, so small groups and solos are best. Other strong possible performer considerations would include piano, violin, cello, and mezzo soprano. In order to submit to the festival, you must renew your membership in the ICF for the 2019-20 season.
