The Iowa Composers Forum’s Fall Festival will be held from October 8-10, 2009 at Clarke College in Dubuque. The festival will be a joint festival between the ICF and SCI (Society of Composers). Featured ensembles will include the Maia String Quartet, the University of Iowa Center for New Music, the Clark Collegiate Singers, the Clarke Cantabile Singers, and the Edgewood College Women’s Chorus. Composers may submit up to five works for the following performing forces:
- Maia String Quartet
- University of Iowa Center for New Music (chamber works for 1-6 players drawn from the instrumentation fl, ob, cl, bn, pno, perc, hn, tpt, tbn, 2vn, va, vc, db)
- Trumpet Ensemble (2-6 players)
- Brass Quintet
- Brass Choir
- SATB Choir (limited divisi)
- SSA Choir (limited divisi)
- Works for solo cello
- Works for solo violin
- Works for cello/violin duo
- Electronic Works (2 channel or video)
For each work, submit a score (with duration indicated on the cover page), separate CD recording, and a cover letter with the composer’s contact information and a list of all works submitted. Electronic or video works should be submitted in DVD or CD format. Due to the logistical complexities of organizing the joint festival, composers are encouraged to submit for the available performance forces, rather than providing their own performers. Composers will be notified of the selections on or before September 5, 2009.
Composers submitting choral works or works for the Brass ensembles (Brass Quintet, Brass Choir, or trumpet ensemble) should be willing to pay to SCI the SCI Festival Registration Fee of $65, since these are SCI supplied ensembles. Composers submitting works for any of the other ensembles or performers will submit their registration fees to the ICF (historically these fees range from $20-$40). Composers will not be charged registration fees by both organizations.
