Call for Entries
Postmark Deadline: April 1, 2009
Music educators, both private instructors and schoolteachers, are encouraged to submit works by K-12 or undergraduate college students written for any combination of instruments and voices to the ICF 14th Annual Student Composers Competition. Entrants should be willing to travel to Grinnell, IA in the spring of 2010 to hear their piece performed if selected for an award. Students can enter a composition into one of four categories based on their age:
- Category 1: 5th grade and younger
- Category 2: 6th–8th grade
- Category 3: 9th-12th grade, or
- Category 4: undergraduate college student
A cash award of $25 and 1st prize certificates will be awarded to the top student winners in the 1st and 2nd Categories. A cash award of $50.00 and a 1st prize certificate will be awarded to the top student winner in the 3rd category. A cash award of $100.00 and a 1st prize certificate will be awarded to the top student winner in the 4th category. Honorary certificates may also be awarded at the20discretion of the judges. The ICF reserves the right to declare no winners in a category if the judges determine there are no entries of sufficient quality. To sponsor a student composer, please submit full scores of their work with all parts clearly shown and no more than 2 parts on a staff. Scores should follow standard ensemble layout practices, including proper instrumental orders and transpositions. Scores should be clearly labeled with the title of the composition and the grade level the student at the time of submission. All marks referring to the identity of the composer should be removed. Please limit submissions to one work per student. On a separate sheet of paper, please include the following: Composition Title; Teacher’s name, address, telephone number, and school (if applicable); Student’s name, school, age, grade level at the time of submission, and a short biography; Brief program notes, approximate timing, instrumentation, and date when the piece was written; If available, please also submit a recording of a live or electronic performance on CD (MIDI realization is acceptable).
Submissions should be postmarked no late r than April 1, 2009 and mailed to:
