Competitions
Postmark Deadline: December 1, 2007
Marilynn Etzel and the Iowa Composers Forum jointly announce a competitive commission contest for a new work for solo piano. Through the Marilynn Etzel Commission Fund, the ICF will award a $500 commission to one of its members to write a 6 to 8 minute solo piano piece designed for an advanced high school student or intermediate college-level pianist. The new work will be premiered at an ICF festival in either the Fall of 2008 or the Spring of 2009. The performance will be paid for and organized by the ICF. The winning composer will receive one half of the funds at the time the commission is announced and the other half when the composition has been
completed. The winning composer will be notified on or before January 1, 2008. The commission will need to be completed by July 1, 2008 and all future copies of the score must include the phrase 'Commissioned by The Iowa Composers Forum through the Marilynn Etzel Commission Fund'.

Entrants must be a member in good standing of the ICF as of December 1, 2007. To be considered for the commission, please submit one or two representative solo piano compositions, recordings (if available), a cover letter listing the names of the compositions, and a SASE, if the return of materials is desired. The judging panel would prefer that one of the submitted compositions demonstrate an understanding of writing at a level suitable for an advanced high school or intermediate level college pianist. The submissions should be anonymous; all references to the composer's name should be removed from the scores and recordings. Please send all materials to:
